Even knowing this, sometimes you still feel like an imposter, or that you will never be "good enough." The thing is, everyone goes through it. So you learn to be your own worst critic, to flip the canvas and wince at all the mistakes you ignored in the process, to look back on a finished work and be honest that you fucked up in some areas and need to take some time to study and shore up those weak spots. And frankly, shying away from criticism does nothing to help you improve. You will have to show your work to all of your peers in the room and receive comments on it. You will be asked by directors to justify creative decisions. You will be expected to be solid on the fundamentals of your craft. ![]() However, if you are looking into getting in the entertainment industry professionally, or are at least serious about bettering yourself even as a hobbyist, blunt criticism is the name of the game. Art is instead an individualized journey for those who sincerely wish to partake in it. ![]() ![]() You learn to understand however that it's not necessarily a competition or a race. And even when you become "good", you'll always find someone better than you, and sometimes they're a decade younger than you. Insecurity as an artist is natural and something that doesn't really go away, because there's an insurmountable things to learn and ways to improve.
